Rams Put Up Fight Against Bears, Still Lose 17-9
Despite looking like they were on course for another blowout early on Sunday, the St. Louis Rams rallied to give Jay Cutler and the Chicago Bears more of a scare than they ever bargained for.
The Rams stuck around through halftime, closing the Bears’ lead to 10-6 in the third quarter, before ultimately falling 17-9 to Chicago at Soldier Field.
While the Rams played their typical, uninspired, Steven Jackson-led offense, the Bears couldn’t get much more rolling after marching down the field for a Matt Forte touchdown on their opening drive.
Jackson wasn’t even guaranteed to play in this one, after leaving last week’s contest against Seattle with back spasms.
“There is no shortcut to it,” said Jackson, who missed most practices in the week leading up to the game. “I knew coming into this game, leaving last week, I was going to face an eight- and nine-man box and I knew it was going to be a rough one. So just try to gut it out.”
Jackson gutted it out on 28 carries for 112 yards, but he had his streak of four straight games with a TD snapped, as he (and the Rams) were held touchdown-less in this game.
“I don’t want us to get used to losing; that’s the most important thing right now,” Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo said. “I want us to be disappointed, not discouraged.”
