Jackson wants to be primary guy

St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson has made it clear that he doesn’t want to be a part of any committee.

Jackson said he can’t stand teams that split carries among a number of running backs and wants to be on the field on third down.

He believes that the big, strong single back is going by the wayside, but he doesn’t want to see it happen in St. Louis.

The outspoken Jackson said he understands why teams go to two running backs, but he wants the ball 25-30 times per game.

Rams clean up play

Under new head coach Steve Spagnuolo, not beating themselves is the new mantra for the St. Louis Rams.

While it’s just a preseason game, the team’s first contest under Spagnuolo was a step in the right direction.

The team was whistled for just five penalties and had no turnovers in a 23-20 win over the New York Jets.

Those are some pretty impressive numbers, especially the low number of penalties for the first preseason game of the year.

Avery out at least a month

St. Louis Rams wide receiver Donnie Avery will miss at least the next month after suffering a foot injury.

The injury occurred during a scrimmage in practice and it looks to be at least a four-to-six week layoff.

That timeline would put Avery’s status in doubt for the beginning of the season, a scary thought for a team without any veteran wideouts.

There is no word on the exact type of injury he suffered, but a fracture has not been mentioned.

Bulger looks to revive career

St. Louis Rams quarterback Marc Bulger hasn’t had the best luck the past couple of years, but he hasn’t helped himself much either.

Bulger has struggled on the field and to stay healthy and not all of that is necessarily his fault.

His terrible offensive line and the rapid decrease in talented weapons around him have not helped his numbers.

That said, the veteran isn’t getting any younger and his job could be in question if he doesn’t make some big plays this year.
