St. Louis Rams defensive tackle La’Roi Glover has announced his retirement from the NFL after 13 seasons.
Glover spent the past three seasons with the Rams but was not signed after 2008 as the team looked to go in a different direction.
The 35-year old has not drawn much interest on the free agent market, so retirement seemed inevitable.
He led the NFL with 17 sacks while playing for the New Orleans Saints in 2000, an incredible feat for a defensive tackle.
Former St. Louis Rams quarterback Trent Green has announced his retirement after 15 seasons in the NFL.
Green was trying to get a backup job or even a starting gig for 2009 but wasn’t drawing much interest.
The quarterback had struggled in recent seasons with a weakening arm and a number of concussions.
Green doesn’t plan on going too far from the game though, as he looks to begin a career in broadcasting.
The St. Louis Rams have a stud of a starting running back in Steven Jackson, but the backup position is a little more unclear.
Training camp is likely to be a heated competition at the running back position, with Kenneth Darby and Antonio Pittman battling it out.
Samkon Gado and Chris Ogbonnaya are also expected to factor into the competition but neither is likely to see significant playing time.
With Jackson’s chronic injuries, the backup running back position carries a lot of weight for the Rams and the player that wins the job could see a lot of playing time.
The owner of the St. Louis Blues is very interested in purchasing the St. Louis Rams, who are going up for sale.
Dave Checketts is heading a group that wants to buy the Rams and keep them in St. Louis, a major worry of the fans.
The Rams have had little interest from potential area buyers, leading to the possibility of relocation.
It also doesn’t help that the franchise was originally from Los Angeles and there has been talk that they may end up there again.
